Tourmaline (Achroite, Dravite, Rubellite, Indicolite, Verdelite, Siberite)
By Jeff R. Graham
92.8% Light Return
Angles for R.I. = 1.62
63 facets + 18 facets on girdle = 81
9-fold, mirror-image symmetry
L/W = 1.015 P/W = 0.410 C/W = 0.198
H/W = (P+C)/W+0.02 = 0.628 P/H = 0.653 C/H = 0.315
Vol./W^3 = 0.205
Addition # 10 - This is neat. Note: The P3 tier can vary, which will make the C2 crown vary a bit too. Cut P3 as evenly and as close to the diagram as you can, but do not be afraid to experiment. This is ideal in light to medium saturated materials. A table can be cut on a larger stone. Cut in refractive indexes 1.62 to 2.14 with no changes.
